At what age can I enrol my child in the Pre-Primary?
We take children from the beginning of the year in which they turn 3.
How many children attend the Pre-Primary?
We have a maximum enrolment of 112 children.
Are all your teachers qualified?
Yes. All our teachers have a recognized Degree or Diploma in Early Childhood Education.
Are all your teachers Christian?
Yes. All our teachers are born again Christians, who have a calling on their lives to serve God at the Pre-Primary.
How big are your classes?
The maximum is usually 24 children per class, with either 2 teachers or a teacher and an assistant teacher per class.
Do you offer any extra-mural activities?
A wide range of activities are offered between 12h00 and 14h00, at the pre-school or on the church campus. These include: Experi-Buddies, Playball, Jungle Gym Kids and Ballet.
What are your Pre-Primary hours?
The school gates open at 7h25. Our Grade R Groups begin at 8h00 and close at 12h30. Our younger groups (Giraffes, Bears and Hippos) begin at 8h00 and close at 12h00.
Do you offer care in the afternoons?
Yes – 3 options are available:
- Early Aftercare until 14h00.
- Early Aftercare until 15h00.
- Late Aftercare also until 17h15.
Do you have to be a member of Harvest Christian Church for your child to attend the Pre-Primary?
While many of our families do belong to Harvest, we also serve a wide range of Christian churches in the broader community of believers.
Do most of the children come from Christian homes?
Yes. Our mission statement states that: ‘Harvest Christian School exists to serve the Christian family…’
We endeavour to enrol families who desire Christian upbringing, teachings, norms and values for their children, so that the values of the home are supported by the school and vice versa.
When do we need to apply to secure a place for our child?
If you seek admission, it is wise to apply by April of the year preceding enrolment..
Do you have any single parent families?
Yes. We have a variety of family dynamics in our school.
Which curricula do you use?
We use a range of excellent and proven Bible-based curricula, which we have merged and adapted over the years to suit our own circumstances.
In Grade R we teach Phonics from the ACE (Accelerated Christian Education) Reading Readiness Programme. This programme has suited us very well over the years. It not only give an excellent thorough grounding in the 35 phonetic sounds covered, but also includes character building and life skills from a Christian perspective. We also use an extended CAPS Numeracy Programme in Grade R.
What defines your Pre-Primary?
We are a Christ-centred Bible-based school, with a loving and nurturing environment. We aim to pursue excellence in the education and development of the whole child. We see the Pre-Primary as an extension of the Christian family and our role as one of supporting parents in the training up of their children.
